During our annual rowing course, we were fortunate in having superb weather and, after swimming tests in the pool at the Excel Centre, everyone was soon out in a variety of boats on the river.
Progress was rapid and soon everyone was ready for our expedition up the river and round the old river to Desborough Island for a picnic lunch and then the long row back to Walton. After a further training session we had a mini fun regatta so everyone got a race as well.
It’s not all about the rowing, however: we also visited Aqualand in Thorpe for a session on the inflatables in the lake and also took kayaks down through the lock to Sunbury for an ice cream.
Rowing is a sports option for pupils in the 4th , 5th and 6th Forms on their games afternoons and all pupils from the 3rd form upwards are welcome to come and try rowing at Walton Rowing Club on a Saturday morning.
