Spring may have been on the way but it certainly had not reached Pila in the Italian Aosta valley when the Cranmore skiers hit the pistes in wonderful snow conditions.
With superb weather and perfect pistes, they were soon tackling some of the more exciting runs with their instructors. Once lessons were over families enjoyed a last run or two together or joined the staff for a group ski.
It was not all about the skiing, however as every evening we had an activity which ranged from ever popular tubing (sliding down a short run in an inner tube), ten pin bowling, tour of Roman Aosta followed by real Italian ice cream or an all you can eat pizza dinner in a typical Italian restaurant. Staying in a renovated coaching inn which is in the same family for 6 generations was a marvellous experience. The beautiful village of Villeneuve is dominated by its ruined castle guarding the valley from a steep rocky outcrop.
All in all this was a wonderful trip with sunshine, skiing, ice-cream and much, much more.
