Swimming is an important part of the curriculum, having its own designated lesson throughout the year in the School's own 25-metre pool. The reception classes begin by using the pool twice a week, this builds confidence, the lessons are staffed by the boy's own class teacher and a specialist swimming teacher. This pattern of staffing continues throughout the Junior Department. In the Junior Department the Amateur swimming Association Award Scheme is used as a way of monitoring the boys' progress. When the boys enter the Senior Department physical education and swimming specialists with a qualified lifesaver present teach them.

Regular galas against other schools take place, boys being introduced to competitive swimming at Class One age. The School hosts the regional rounds of the National Championships and are regular competitors in the National Finals. Several local clubs use the facility for training up to County standard.

All age groups have their own extra sessions when either competitive swimmers can train, or boys new to the school can improve their technique. Perhaps the most important aspect of the programme is the sessions devoted to water safety and the Personal Survival lessons, these give confidence to the boys, and peace of mind to their parents during other water activities.
