Senior Department
When the boys enter the Senior Department at the age of 8 (Year 4) the main difference from the Junior Department is that all teaching is subject based rather than class based. The boys will continue to be taught by specialists but will be expected to move around between the various subject bases within the school. The boys start to do this for some subjects while still in the Junior Department. All boys have a form room and a form teacher who is usually also one of their subject teachers.
As in the Junior Department there are three/four parallel classes within each year group and these remain unchanged for the first three years in the seniors.
At the end of the 4th Form (Year6) the boys are divided into 2 Common Entrance classes and 1 Scholarship class.
Staff recognise the importance of working in partnership with parents to provide boys with the best possible education. In addition to Parents' Evenings and Parents' Receptions, staff are happy to see parents at other times.
