Cranmore Pupils

Senior Department | ICT

The school has over 100 fully networked computers, for the use of boys and staff. There are 2 large computer rooms each containing 25 PCs. The Science Department has its own computers, which are used for data logging etc. in the laboratories. The Library has its own computers to enable boys to have supervised access to the Internet for research. All the classrooms are networked.

In the Senior Department, the boys are timetabled for ICT each week and are prepared for the OCR CLAIT examinations in Word Processing, Spreadsheet, Database, Desktop Publishing, Graphical Representation of Data, and Internet Technologies. They are introduced to Logo and to Microsoft Power Point.

In their subject groups, they also use the computer facilities in mathematics, English, history, Latin, geography, art and RE. Each subject has its own specialist software, but teachers can also make use of the Word Processor, Spreadsheet or Internet, as the boys are already so familiar with them.

Incorporated into the system are digital cameras, scanners and other hardware to enable boys to make full use of the system in project work. Throughout the school there are ‘SMART Boards’ which allow full integration of computer resources into lessons, allowing video, slides, text and sounds to be pre-recorded and run at will to enhance the boys’ learning experience.
