Cranmore Pupils

Senior Department | History

The History Department is an important and successful department, staffed by a team of experienced and enthusiastic teachers, whose policy is to encourage a long term interest in the subject and to promote a wider education in communication, problem solving, moral values, citizenship, personal and social behaviour, cultural and leisure pursuits, and an understanding of the political and economic background of Modern Society.

Our main aims are :

  1. To catch the interest of the pupils and motivate them by sound and stimulating teaching, using a variety of different teaching methods and resources such as ICT and Television
  2. To develop Historical Knowledge, an understanding of History, a range of Historical Skills, and high standards of oral and written communication and presentation.
  3. To incorporate in our courses as much of the National Curriculum Key Stage 2 & 3 Programme of Study as is possible.
  4. To encourage further reading and research, and an awareness of the value of visits to Museums, Historical Sites and Exhibitions.
  5. To achieve the best possible academic results for each pupil in the Common Entrance and Scholarship examinations at 13+.
