Nursery
We actively encourage parental involvement in the Nursery. Parents and boys are given the opportunity to meet the Nursery staff in the summer term before the boys start at Cranmore. Once attending, there is always an opportunity for parents to speak to a member of staff at the start or end of the Nursery day.
The boys’ progress is monitored, and open afternoons, including private parent interviews, are held in the first and second term with a written report in the summer term.
Birthdays are celebrated at school and the boys are invited to bring in a cake or treat to share with the class.
The boys are encouraged to bring in items from home. We love to see special items, photos or postcards and share the boys’ experiences outside school.
Junior Department
The Junior Department uses The Golden Rules as a code of conduct. They are seen as the compass to point us in the right direction. Assemblies and regular Circle Time activities in the classroom reinforce the Golden Rules and allow boys time to express their feelings in a caring environment. Boys all know to whom they can turn if they have any problems and parents are encouraged to share any concerns they might have with their son’s class teacher or the Head of the Junior Department.

Senior Department
Here at Cranmore your son’s happiness and wellbeing are of paramount importance to us all. Class teachers have the responsibility for the daily routine and care of your son in both the Junior and Senior Departments. Your son will also be in a House group. There are six Houses in the school and a boy usually remains in the same House throughout his years at Cranmore. On entering the Senior Department all the boys are assigned a ‘buddy’, a member of the 6th Form from their House, to help them when necessary and provide another line of communication. In the Senior Department the House Groups assemble weekly under the guidance of a Housemaster and House staff. The Housemaster’s role is to encourage and motivate the boys to work to gain merits for the House. He will also discipline boys receiving demerits and communicate any concerns to the Class Teacher and, if necessary, the Head of the Senior Department. The school nurse and reception staff also play a vital role in your sons’ care. Apart from tending to ongoing medical needs and cuts and bruises they are always ready to listen to worries, which they will share with your son’s Class Teacher if necessary.
Bullying
We consider bullying to be a very serious matter and should parents have concerns they should be addressed in the first instance to the Class Teacher who will inform the Head of the Senior or Junior Department. Cranmore practises the ‘No Blame’ approach when resolving bullying issues. A full description of this method can be found in the Parents’ Handbook
