STARTING IN THE NURSERY
Boys enter the Nursery in September, aged three, and will celebrate their fourth birthday during that academic year.
THE NURSERY DAY
The class operates from 8.35am to 12midday for five mornings a week, when all boys are in attendance. Afternoon sessions are optional. There are regular opportunities to introduce or increase afternoon attendance as the boys proceed through the year. Those boys staying for the afternoon are provided with a school lunch served withinthe Nursery. A rest period, when the boys are able to listen quietly to taped stories and music or to look at books, precedes the afternoon session, which finishes at 3.30pm.
STAFFING
The boys are in the care of well-qualified and experienced staff with a ratio of one to eight. A specialist music teacher also works with the boys.
THE ENVIRONMENT
The Nursery is bright and welcoming and the boys are encouraged to choose their own activities, which are all within their reach. Paint, glue and scissors are always on hand and the boys' work is displayed around the classrooms. The boys love dressing up; Bob the builder is always at work as are doctors, nurses, chefs, shopkeepers, firemen and police. Outside, the boys have access to sandpits, trikes, and a purpose built adventure playground. We visit the school gym and sports hall every week, and twice a week our music lessons are held in the music school
We are of course extremely fortunate in being able to access the main school grounds at any time and the boys all have a pair of Wellingtons on site!
PASTORAL CARE
We actively encourage parental involvement in the Nursery. Parents and boys are given the opportunity to meet the Nursery staff in the summer term before the boys start at Cranmore. Once attending, there is always an opportunity for parents to speak to a member of staff at the start or end of the Nursery day.
The boys' progress is monitored, and open afternoons, including private parent interviews, are held in the first and second term with a written report in the summer term.
Birthdays are celebrated at school and the boys are invited to bring in a cake or treat to share with the class.
The boys are encouraged to bring in items from home. We love to see special items, photos or postcards and share the boys' experiences outside school.
