7+ Scholarships for September 2012

Scholarships will be awarded annually, at the governors' discretion, for pupils joining Year 3 (Form 1). These awards are intended to recognise outstanding potential for high achievement in academic, musical or sports endeavours. These awards are open to both internal and external candidates who must be less than eight years of age at the time of the assessment(s).

Academic Awards

This assessment will consist of four elements:

a) Written Maths paper and mental arithmetic test

b) Written English paper which will include a comprehension exercise and creative writing

c) Written exercise based on critical thinking

d) Interview with the Head of the Junior Department

e) Report from the Headteacher of the candidate’s current school (external candidates only).

Music

Candidates will be assessed by the Director of Music. This will normally include a short performance by the candidate in their chosen instruments, normally TWO including voice if appropriate. In addition, testimonials in support of the application from relevant external third parties will be taken into consideration. School fees will be adjusted accordingly to represent the amount awarded but subsidised peripatetic lessons will not form part of the award.

Sport

Candidates will be assessed by the Director of Sport. This will normally include a series of practical activities which are designed to determine a candidate’s agility, co-ordination and practical skills. In addition, testimonials in support of the application from relevant external third parties will be taken into consideration.

General

Any award made will be honoured from the time it takes effect until the pupil leaves the school subject to the pupil’s conduct, application and performance being satisfactory. In addition, both the pupil and his parents must give their full support to the school’s policies and procedures.

External candidates must be registered by 9th December 2011 and will be required to be successful in meeting the school's normal entry requirements in order to be eligible for any scholarship assessment.

Tuesday 31st January 2012 (Reserve date for all scholarships)
