The Music Department is at the heart of life at Cranmore School.
We have great facilities at Cranmore including an Auditorium with Mander organ and Steinway C Grand, two large teaching rooms, one containing twenty Yamaha keyboards for class use, and seven practice rooms all containing an upright piano.
The department has two full-time teachers and currently sixteen visiting instrumental staff. All orchestral instruments are taught as well as drums and electric guitar. We also teach music technology as an after school club. Junior boys have the opportunity to learn the recorder with a specialist teacher once they reach the Upper Preps.
The staff run a number of instrumental and vocal groups throughout the week.

Opportunities to perform are plentiful. Assembly, informal concerts, Carol Service, Spring Soiree and Summer Serenade all promote performing. We also have annual summer show.
All boys at Cranmore have class music lessons and boys in Form 2 and 3 learn theory grade 1 and 2 respectively.
Boys have the chance to take Associated Board practical and theory exams on site at Cranmore and we are proud of our 100% pass rate. We are regular performers at local music festivals and the orchestra and choirs attend senior school festivals.
Boys and parents are exposed to different types of music played by professional musicians at the ‘Cranmore Live’ concerts once a term.Cranmore boys often attend senior school Orchestral and Singing days.
Cranmore boys regularly gain scholarships to senior schools such as The Royal Grammar School and Cranleigh School.
