Junior Department | Maths
Boys entering the Nursery are encouraged to develop their knowledge and understanding of mathematics through practical activities, exploration, discussion and enjoyment. This continues throughout the Junior Department where the boys will also learn to understand, use and apply number and to make appropriate connections between numbers, shape, space and measures. The New Heinemann Mathematics series is introduced to the Junior boys in the Lower Preps (Reception).
All the requirements of the National Curriculum are met and, indeed, exceeded.
We aim to ensure a solid foundation of understanding in the basic principles of mathematics as a preparation for the transition to the Senior Department, but, at the same time, allowing for differentiation within the classroom.
