Design Technology is taught in a purpose built workshop, where materials such as wood, metal and plastic are used to make small products. The use of computer aided design, computer aided manufacture and electronics is also incorporated to enhance project work.

Form 1 use the facility on a rotation basis, Forms 2 through to 4 have a double lesson a week and forms 5 and 6 use the room for half a year each in rotation with Art.

The subject is taught mainly as a practical subject in the early years with the introduction of theory of materials and processes as the boys progress through the school.

The practical element of Design Technology helps to foster lateral thinking and problem solving skills. Tools and machinery are introduced where it is appropriate for the age group. This will conclude with a good level of confidence in all the facilities that the workshop offers by the time the boys leave the school and move on to their chosen secondary school.

Reference to possible careers in Design, Manufacturing and Engineering is always discussed when it is appropriate. This encourages the boys to begin looking at the everyday things around them in a new way.
