Cranmore Pupils

Sport | Cricket

Cricket is the main striking and fielding game played at Cranmore. The rudiments of the game are introduced in the Reception Classes using soft balls and modified equipment. Our own version of the game, “Cranmore Cricket,” is used as a tool to teach the game throughout the Senior Department allowing games to be played in a relatively short time with maximum levels of participation.

As boys progress through the year groups the techniques are refined using 1:1, group and net coaching. The five indoor nets are regularly used by those boys who have mastered length and line in bowling and the various strokes when batting. At this stage a hard ball is used and all English Cricket Board regulations for young players are adhered to.

The School fields three teams in each year group with the addition of a 4 th X1 in the senior age. They play against other schools and club colts' sections. All staff who coach cricket hold E.C.B. Level 1, 2, or 3 Coach Awards and are able to take players on to high levels of performance. A very high proportion of boys play for clubs and many also play for County District or full County age group teams.

Cranmore is the Surrey Cricket Board Centre of Excellence for Coach Education, and hosts all the coaching modules, most Level 1 and all Level 2 courses. The Board also use our facilities for their Youth Squad practices. Cranmore staff frequently coach on these and National courses.
