Cranmore Parents Association
Summer 2008
Welcome back!
After an unseasonable cold and wintry Easter the CPA are looking forward to a sunny Summer Term.
In May we are returning to Sandown to celebrate Cranmore’s 40th Birthday at our Summer Ball. The Ball Committee have worked hard to make this a night not to be missed, with a bigger dance floor and the addition of a band among this year’s extras. In addition on the night we will be drawing our Birthday Raffle, our first raffle for the parents. Tickets will be on sale from 18th April and additional books will be available from the CPA in-tray in reception.
In June the sun will be shinning for our biggest fund-raising and for the boys fun day of the year – our Summer Fete. It is one of the events the whole family always enjoy and the array of activities, stalls and games should provide you breathing space to enjoy a glass of Pimms, or a restful moment in the Tea Tent (together with a retail therapy moment!), whilst your little ones have fun - all within the confines of our fabulous grounds. The wellie throwing is a ‘must’ for our competitive dads, together with the golf chipping ……. and you know you want to take home a fresh coconut too!! The BBQ will be freshly prepared, on demand, and the little ones will have great fun with the Hoopla, Lucky Dip and Panning for Gold and much more! Our annual Summer Raffle will also be drawn at the Fete, offering the boys a chance to win one of our great prizes.
Thank you very much to all those who joined us in the Gym last term for the brain-teasing fun at our annual Quiz. There really was a happy “buzz” throughout the room with everyone enjoying themselves. Wonderful aromas from Horsley’s local Indian restaurants added to this year’s amazing picnic spreads. The CPA would like to say a very big thank to our new Quiz Master Jeff Richards for his wide-ranging set of questions with something for all abilities, levels and expectations. The 6th formers did a wonderful job, not only collecting & distributing forms, but also competing as a team in their own right. They couldn’t match Mrs Butt’s winning team but they performed admirably!
As ever the CPA is extremely grateful to our Class Representatives, who make our events so successful. These volunteers from each class throughout Cranmore are pivotal in creating the good social relations within their classes – in helping to welcome new boys and parents alike, and in arranging regular “get-togethers” for one academic year. They are invaluable in generating the enthusiasm within their year group to attend CPA events and for helping to fill tables, for example at Quiz Night or at The Ball. They are also extremely helpful in creating the valuable rotas of volunteers to help before, during and after events for which the Committee is very grateful.
The current Class Reps organiser is Rachael Anderson - and she would be delighted to hear from you if you need to know the name of your class rep or have any other related query! In addition if you fancy taking on this role next year please contact your current Class Rep or Rachael.
As well as raising money, the Committee made a number of donations to the school, during the first two terms of the year to the value of £4,300. In addition our latest donation of Playground equipment has been installed over the Easter holidays. Thanks to the generosity of the parents, the Play jet and other items are aimed at primarily the Junior boys and the lower end of the Senior School. They should provide hours of fun imaginative play at break time.
This term to mark Cranmore’s landmark 40th Birthday we are raising funds buy a “birthday present” for the school that will benefit boys across the whole school – a new lighting and sound system for the auditorium. This can be used for productions from the Nursery’s Nativity play and junior class assemblies through to the Musical Soirees and end of term productions that the boys and parents enjoy so much.
For new parents or those just wondering the Cranmore Parents’ Association (or CPA as we are generally called) is made up of 14 energetic and enthusiastic, self-motivated parents. We are elected to the Committee to work together for a 2 year period, or more, alongside the Headmaster and staff representatives. We are always looking out for enthusiastic parents to join us. If you are interested please do let us know.
Here’s to a warm and sunny Summer and we look forward to meeting you at one of our forthcoming events.
