| Music Technology (MTech) |
MTech is a music and media technology programme in which boys create exciting music through a series of fun projects. These range from composing songs in a given genre (e.g. Pop / Rock / Hip Hop) through to creating jingles, sound effects and dialogue to TV adverts, cartoons and radio shows. MTech is suitable for all levels of musical ability and everyone takes home a CD with their music on at the end of each term.
This takes place at Craggy Island in Guildford.
Following a suggestion from the boys, through the School Council, we now offer sailing and have established our club at Paper Court in Ripley.
We entered the IAPS sailing championshipat the Olympic Sailing Centre in Weymouth. N. Wishart and P. Horn Montoya represented us in the J11 age group and they took 3rd place.
Judo is a popular club which has classes from Upper prep through to Form 8. The boys learn a variety of skills and grade each year to determine the colour of the belt worn.

Ornithology
Ornithology club involves investigating our local area of Cranmore School and also nearby nature reserves to identify the many different species of birds that inhabit our countryside. Each boy also becomes a member of the RSPB.
This gives boys an introduction to the Spanish language. Boys learn basic vocabulary through games on the Smartboard, role plays and texts. We also look at the countries where Spanish is spoken. It is designed to be a fun club, where the aim is to appreciate a different culture and to be able to communicate on a functional level.
Over thirty boys take part at lunchtime each week. There is one session for the 3rd Form and another for the 4th and 5th Forms combined.
So what do the boys get out of it? Well, apart from the sheer enjoyment of playing the game, it encourages teamwork, logical thought, tactics, reading a hefty rule book and the ability to spot an opportunity!
As part of the extra-curricular programme we run a Science Club on Mondays. The aim of the club is to develop experimental skills and enthusiasm for science. It also gives boys the opportunity to undertake fun, safe, practical activities with the support of a member of staff and the school's science technician. The experiments complement the work done in class allowing boys to extend their practical skills with 'hands on' investigations. It also gives pupils the chance to work collaboratively, improving their communication and leadership skills.
Recent experiments include:
Science Surgery
This is held on Friday lunchtimes for boys in the 5th and 6th forms. It helps boys improve their understanding of key aspects of science through various activities. They have discussion groups on 'big science questions and ideas'; this links in with the syllabus and the curriculum topics done in class.
Cranmore has a thriving Senior Drama Club with a membership of 65 boys. The club runs for one hour each week during term time, covering all aspects of drama from acting, dancing and theatre skills to costume, make-up, stage lighting and stage scenery design. At the end of each academic year we produce a play in conjunction with the music department.
Everyone has the opportunity to use the LEGO sets on offer at school as well as other types of modelling equipment. The boys may also bring their own kits from home and continue to work on them at school. A firm favourite is building the K-NEX Roller Coaster, which usually takes a term, and is great fun to use once completed.
The club is a wonderful chance to help the boys learn to work as part of a team whilst developing their imagination.
Rowing,Ski &Golf Clubs have descriptions in the sports section.
