Philosophy
Our most senior pupils enjoy an introduction to Western Philosophy. The course includes an exploration of developments from the Pre-Socratics through to the giants of the 20th Century such as Wittgenstein and Sartre. The boys develop an appreciation for many of the key questions such as the mind-body problem and the issue of freewill and determinism.
They are able to strengthen their skills in presenting a coherent, rational argument which clearly enhances their performance in other aspects of the curriculum. They particularly enjoy tackling logic problems but are also interested in how philosophy influences society in areas such as Law, Bioethics and Civil Rights.
