Latin
Latin is taught from the 3rd Form (Year 5) to all pupils. The course aims to train the boys in logical and reasoned thought, through the learning of rules of grammar and the logical application of these when translating. In turn, the boys also gain an appreciation of the technicalities of our own language; sentence structure and vocabulary.
In addition, background topics are studied in order to foster an interest in the Roman (and Greek) world and through this an interest in our own culture and civilisation.
We
have an exciting programme of educational visits and activities including a
Greek Myth Competition and a visit from a Roman Soldier. However, our boys have
also explored sites such as Fishbourne Palace and many joined us on a trip to
Rome and Pompeii.
